Woodward Academy defeated Eastside 44-6 at Sharp Stadium Friday night.

Eric Stokes gave Eastside an early 6-3 lead on a run in the first quarter, but after the extra point missed, the Eagles (4-1-1, 3-1 Region 4-AAAA) weren’t able to muster much else against the Woodward defense.
Woodward (5-1, 4-0) answered Stokes’ score with a touchdown of its own and ended the first quarter ahead 10-6.

The second quarter was one-sided in favor of Woodward Academy, scoring two touchdowns and two field goals in the period.

The Eagles trailed 30-6 at half time and came out in the third period with a solid defensive effort. While the Eagles’ defense held Woodward Academy from the end zone, Eastside still couldn’t get its offense going. The Eagles tried one field goal in the third quarter, but weren’t able to convert.

Woodward Academy was able to ice it with another touchdown in the fourth quarter and put an end to Eastside’s three-game winning streak.
Eastside drops to second place in the region while Woodward remains unbeaten at the top of the region standings.

Eastside will have an off week this coming Friday and host Salem in the penultimate game of the regular season on senior night, Oct. 28.
