From the day she walked into Eastside's gym to play basketball as a freshman, Raven Williams was a fixture at the point guard position. Four years later, she's a graduate headed to play college basketball.

Williams signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Reinhardt College Monday and will be making the transition in the fall.

Williams averaged 10 points per game over her career as a Lady Eagle and is among the school's career leaders in steals, assists and 3-pointers made. The sweet-shooting lefty was known for her tenacious defense and ability to penetrate but could also beat defenders from beyond the arc.

Williams was also one of Eastside's most reliable players. In four years she missed only a handful of games and often played through nagging injuries.

As the point guard, Williams led the Lady Eagles to the school's first playoff win this year. The Lady Eagles reached the second round of the Class AAA playoffs for the first time in school history in 2011.

Williams was part of a starting backcourt with Jjade Cook that played more than 100 high school games together. She was an All-Region honoree her senior year and made The News All-County team three straight years.

Reinhardt University is in Waleska, north of Canton. The Reinhardt Eagles play in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and are part of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Eagles are coming off a 14-17 season and went 5-9 in conference play. They were 9-6 at home in 2010-11.
