Eastside girls' soccer falls 9-2 to Eagles Landing

There were few offensive bright spots for the Eastside’s girls’ soccer team, as Eagles Landing handed Eastside a 9-2 home loss Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles’ defense tried to stand pat, with 10 combined saves by goalkeepers Jordyn Blare and Savana Arwood. However, the Eagles’ Landing onslaught was too much, going up 8-0.

With 6:17 left, Eastside got on the scoreboard with Malaya Yamasaki and Charlee Rowell combining to score. It was Yamasaki’s sixth goal of the season, tying her with teammate Morgan Green for second on the team.

Just more than a minute later Madison Morvik sent an Eastside corner kick that resulted in an Eagles Landing own goal, bringing the final score to 9-2.

Morvik was the bright spot for Eastside’s offense, setting up scoring opportunities, with crosses, through passes, free kicks and corner kicks. Those opportunities couldn’t find the back of the net and Eastside slipped to eighth place in region 4-AAAA with three region matches remaining.

Eastside (8-4, 4-4 4-AAAA) was playing without leading scorer, Allie Durmaine, who was sidelined with an injury.
Eastside will host Mt. Zion Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
