Marks leads Albany State

Chaconna Marks, Newton – Marks had an RBI and led Albany State with two hits in the Rams’ first ever playoff victory in nine attempts, beating St. Leo 2-1 Saturday.

The victory kept No. 8 seed Albany from being eliminated after falling to the No. 1 seed and No. 3-nationally ranked host Valdosta State 5-4 in the NCAA South Region I tournament Saturday.

Albany State (22-3) then lost 6-2 to Tampa in the regional semifinals Sunday. VSU went on to beat Tampa 12-6 later that day to claim the South Region I Championship.

Golf

Taylor Smith, Eastside – The Georgia College senior All-American shot 13-over with rounds of 77, 74 and 78 to finish 55th overall as the Bobcats finished ninth in the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional May 8.

The 18th ranked Georgia College golf team shot a three-round score of 35-over par at the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
