The Peachtree Academy Panthers fell 34-24 in a tough matchup against Covenant Academy Cougars on Sept. 2.

The Panthers relied heavily on their running game, with Josh Coursey leading the rushing attack for the Panthers with seven carries, 128 yards and two touchdowns. Coursey also had a big impact on defense in Friday’s game, posting six solo tackles and six assisted tackles. Hunter Payne posted 14 carries for 100 yards, with one touchdown and one reception. He led the Panther defense with 9 solo tackles and three assisted tackles.

Patrick Cartledge posted seven carries for 65 yards, one touchdown and 1-1 on passing, and he contributed four solo tackles and one defended pass prior to leaving the game in the early third quarter.

For the defensive players, Will Mitchell executed sound defense with three solo tackles, two assisted tackles, three defended passes and a sack on the Covenant Academy quarterback. Zachariah Pearson contributed one solo tackle and four assisted, while Lawson VanNess recorded one interception and two solo tackles on defense and resumed quarterback duties in the third and fourth quarters.

Despite these performances, the Panthers could not hold off the Cougars in the end and fell 24-34.
Peachtree Academy Panthers (2-1) will travel to Grace Christian Eagles on Friday at 7:30 p.m. looking to bounce back from the loss.
