Welcome to your weekend: Treebies!

Newborn is planning an Arbor Day celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday that will feature free hot dogs, free bluegrass and even free trees.

Presented by the Newborn Tree Board, the event will also feature a special tree-planting and memorial stone ceremony to honor the memory of late Newborn Mayor Roger Sheridan.

Beryl Budd, a retired forester, will demonstrate the proper way to plant and nurture a new tree, and some 250 tree seedlings will be given away for planting at home.

Also, experts from Arbor Equity of Covington will be on hand with professional tree-climbing harnesses to safely "hoist children (of all ages) up into the treetops of Town Park" while all their mothers on the ground hold their breath at the same time.
