A 19-year-old Stone Mountain man was arrested after he tried to steal $230 worth of weaves from a Conyers beauty supply shop on Saturday.

According to Conyers police, the SJ Beauty Supply store on West Avenue received a call from a male asking about a certain type of hair weave.

The shop employee said they had that type and the caller said they’d come and get it the next day.

On Saturday, shortly after 10 a.m., a tall man later identified as Leon Domonique Barker came into the shop and said he was the person who had called asking about the weaves.

The shop owner proceeded to show him the weaves, said CPD Lt. Jack Dunn.

“He asked about a different brand, when she turned around to look for the different hair brand, he snatched it and ran,” said Dunn.

The store owner’s husband ran after him.

“He ran and attempted to get into the Dairy Queen, but the doors were locked,” Dunn said.

Barker then fled behind the shopping center and Conyers police officers who were in the area at the time were able to catch him without incident. Dunn said Barker submitted to the arrest.

While he was fleeing, Barker reportedly dropped a butcher knife, although he did not show the knife during the robbery.

Barker was charged for robbery, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and a bench warrant from Rockdale for not appearing in court for a disorderly conduct charge.
