Veteran's Day Events

The men and women who have served in the armed forces will be highlighted and honored this week with a number of events in the county.

On Wednesday, Nov. 10, Rockdale County High School will host its third annual Veteran's Day Program at the high school at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., featuring Major General Maria Britt, head of the Georgia Army National Guard and a Conyers resident, and Pearl Harbor survivors. On Nov. 11, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 1432 VFW Drive, will be an open house for veterans with free hot dogs, music and more. (770) 483-7443.

A Veteran's Day Ceremony will also be held at the Walk of Heroes in Black Shoals Park in Rockdale County. The keynote speaker is CSM Ronald T. Riling, Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army Forces Command. The American Legion Post 77 Color Guard will present the colors at 11 a.m. Dignitaries also include Richard Oden, Rockdale County Commission Chairman, Norman Wheeler,Walk of Heroes Board of Directors and former commission chairman, Gene Windham, District Governor of Georgia Rotary District 6910, Chuck Koons, Commander VFW post 5290 in Conyers and Jr. Vice-Commander, GA VFW 3rd district, Tommy Clack, veterans services director, Mike Hilleboe, president of the Conyers Rotary club, and Tom Harrison, president of the Rockdale Rotary Club.
