UPDATE (Feb. 3, 10:33 a.m.): A family of two adults and two teens is without a home after a fire burned down the house on Green Valley Drive Friday morning.

The duplex was up in flames by the time firefighters arrived, according to Rockdale County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Sharon Webb. Five units responded to the scene, as well as assistance from Newton County firefighters with a ladder truck.

Two residents that firefighters initially thought were inside were located safe at school and at a neighbor's house. A dog living at the house was found deceased.

The house is considered a total loss, said Webb, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
