Matea Chavez Mendez Stewart, 21, and her husband William Grant Stewart, 21, face charges of murder and cruelty to children in the death of Mrs. Stewart's child.

Deputies came to their Morris Drive home on the afternoon of July 28 after dispatchers received a call that a 5-month-old baby boy was not breathing.

Deputies arrived and began CPR, and EMS transported the child to Rockdale Medical Center. The infant was later transported to Egleston Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Investigators determined the child had received multiple injuries over a period of time, and charged Mr. and Mrs. Stewart in his death.

Both are being held without a bond.
