Snapping Shoals EMC recently announced the winners of its 20 scholarships, which are worth $2,000 each and are awarded to outstanding high school seniors in the co-op’s territory.
The winners of the 2011 J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships are:
• District 1 (Newton, Walton, Morgan and Jasper counties) – Nicolas Barton, Mary
Collart, Demetrius Harper and Gurinder Sunner
• District 2 (Rockdale County) – MadisonIvey, Angel Lindsey, Jalem Towler and Kirstin Wells
• District 3 (DeKalb County) – Danielle Jackman and Jalysha Joseph
• District 4 (Henry and Butts counties) – Kelsey Dees, Charles Lovett, Taylor Sorensen and Ashley Reavis
The selection of the J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarship recipients was based on academic ability, financial need, school activities, community involvement and other criteria as well as a test that was given to all finalists. The Snapping Shoals EMC Scholarships were created in 1993 and were renamed in memory of Snapping Shoals’ former manager, president and CEO J.E. Robinson after his death in 2004.
In addition to the J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships, Snapping Shoals also awarded six All-Around Scholarships, worth $2,000 each. The winners of the 2011 All-Around Student Scholarships are: Uchenna Aunobi of Conyers, Morgan Beek of Conyers, Michelle Borg of Conyers, Kierra Brown of McDonough, Natalee Dukes of Conyers and Jessica Reed of Conyers.
The first Snapping Shoals EMC All-Around Student Scholarships were created in 2007 to recognize high school students throughout the area who are able to balance involvement in extracurricular activities while maintaining an excellent academic record. Involvement in school and community activities is the primary consideration for the All-Around Student Scholarship. Academic ability and financial need are also factors in the selection of the All-Around scholarship recipients.
