Applications are currently available for the 2010 Snapping Shoals EMC J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships, the All-Around Student Scholarships, and the Washington Youth Tour.

J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships are currently worth $2,000 each and will be awarded to 14 high school seniors. Academic ability and financial need are the primary considerations in the judging process, but other factors such as school involvement also contribute to an applicant's overall score. The deadline to apply for the J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships is Feb. 12.

The All-Around Student Scholarships are aimed at recognizing those students who go above and beyond in their extracurricular activities while still maintaining high academic standards. Snapping Shoals EMC will award a total of six $2,000 All-Around Student scholarships, and the deadline to apply is March 12.

To be eligible for both the J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships and All-Around Student Scholarships, students who apply must be a senior at a high school served by SSEMC or live in a home served by Snapping Shoals. In addition, the recipient must graduate from high school at the end of the current school year and begin college or technical school within one year after graduation. The scholarship must be used at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school.

In addition to the J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships and the All-Around Student Scholarships, Snapping Shoals EMC will also be awarding an all-expenses-paid trip to our nation's capital plus a $500 scholarship to two high school students in our area again this year.

The Washington Youth Tour is a fun and fast-paced opportunity to learn about America's government and history while making new friends. The two winners from SSEMC will join more than 100 other teens from across Georgia and about 1,400 other students from across the country in visiting Washington, D.C. Participants will tour historic sites, meet state and national leaders, experience government in action and take part in leadership-building activities. The dates for the 2010 Washington Youth Tour are June 11 through June 18. To be eligible for the Washington Youth Tour and SSEMC Youth Tour Scholarship, students must be a high school sophomore or junior this school year; be at least 16 years old by June 10, 2010; be available to attend the entire Youth Tour (June 10-17, 2010); and have a parent or legal guardian's permission to participate.

Scholastic record, school activities, community service and other achievements will be considered when choosing the two winners. Youth Tour Scholarships will be awarded when participants begin college. The deadline to apply for the Youth Tour is Feb. 5, 2010.
Students may pick up scholarship and Washington Youth Tour applications in the counseling office or career center of most high schools. Forms are also available at both Snapping Shoals offices, online at www.ssemc.com or by calling 770-385-2888. Full instructions and eligibility requirements for Snapping Shoals EMC scholarships are included with all application forms.
