I don't often have the opportunity to write columns in our sports section.

But, as we hit the stride of this holiday season, I had the opportunity to review what went on in Rockdale County this year before I arrived and reflect back on the four months of sports I've had the pleasure to be a part of here.

There were region championships, individual titles and even a state title. In-between I had the opportunity watch rivalry games, view coaches' meetings and get to know some of the best youths our county has to offer.

The Year in Review articles offered the opportunity to highlight some of the most memorable moments in Rockdale County sports this season, but these are just a few that make up our county's athletic identity.

The holiday season usually brings out the best in all of us, once the holiday shopping is done and over with, and I'm thankful I had the opportunity to relive some of these sports moments.

Over the next few days while you're spending time with your family, friends or other loved ones, remember to continue to bring out the best in one another.

I'll be sitting in North Carolina with my family, watching a few bowl games, playing basketball and enjoying the precious few days I get to spend with them before it's time to head back to Georgia to begin work again. Overall, a perfect sports setting for a sports editor.
