The Salem boys varsity basketball team found nothing but coal at the 2013 Kreul Classic in Coral Springs, Fla., going 0-3 at the event as part of The Rock Challenge Dec. 19-21.

The Seminoles fell 59-58 in the tournament opener, surrendering a layup to Pine Crest High School (Florida) with a second to go.

Demyon Greenwood led Salem with 19 points in the loss, while Devonte Hedgepeth finished with eight points.

"We showed a lot of heart coming back, but there was just so much effort put in the comeback, we ended up running out of gas," Salem coach Noah Harrell said. "It was tough, but I was proud of the guys for finishing it out."

Salem was down 34-20 to Pine Crest at halftime, but rallied back to take a lead with 1:30 left in the contest.

Salem also dropped a 66-47 decision to Grant County (Kentucky) and a 66-47 contest to Coral Springs.
