Scouts honored

Eighteen Boy Scout Eagle Scouts and Girl Scout Gold Award Scouts were honored with a Scout Recognition Banquet held Feb. 26 at Salem United Methodist Church.

Along with Boy and Girl Scout heritage and accomplishments, a proclamation that declared Feb. 22 as dedicated to Eagle and Gold Award Scouts in Rockale and Newton Counties and in the General Assembly was read aloud.

The scouts recognized at the ceremony were:

Guests included Rockdale County CEO Richard Oden, Sheriff Jeff Wigington and Andrea Cooper, who represented District 95 state Rep. Pam Dickerson, Rockale Rotary president Tom Harrison.

Garland Moore was recognized with Cliff Dochtererman Rotary Scouting Services award from Rotary International for his work with the Eagle Scouts program.

The reception, hosted by the Rockdale Rotary club, was also a chance for the scouts to spend time with vocational mentors such as Wigington and retired fire chief Tommy Morgan. - Staff reports
