Summer is still in its prime, but preparations are already underway for the beginning of the coming school year.

 Students will be going back to school on Monday, Aug. 5. Teachers officially head back for pre-planning on July 26. Open Houses for Rockdale County Public Schools will be held July 30 - Aug. 1.

Open House schedules

Ninth Grade: Monday, July 29
Salem High: 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Rockdale County High: 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Heritage High: 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

High schools, other grades: Tuesday, July 30, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Middle schools: Wednesday, July 31, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Elementary school: Thursday, August 1, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Memorial Middle School STEM Academy: Monday, July 29, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Rockdale Career Academy:
Thursday, August 1, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.

 

Student Registration

Also, a reminder to parents that Student Registration will temporarily move from its normal West Avenue location to 1400 Parker Road and will operate at Parker Road from July 25 - Aug. 9.

"Our Student Registration moves to Parker Road to be able to better accommodate the increase in numbers of parents registering their children for school," wrote Director of Community and Student Support April Fallon.

Student Registration will close on West Avenue at noon on Wednesday, July 24, and will open at 1400 Parker Road, Lobby A, Conyers, Georgia 30094, at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 25.

Hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Student Registration will close on Parker Road at noon on Friday, Aug. 9 and open again on West Avenue on Monday, Aug. 12 to resume normal operations.

Parents are strongly encouraged to visit Student Registration now, before the rush. You can also go to the RCSP web site at rockdale.k12.ga.us for the list of items to bring to complete the registration process. The Student Registration Helpline is 770-761-1457

Student Registration Required Documents

In order to register your child for school, you will need to bring the required documents listed below with you to Student Registration. Students will not be able to attend school until all the necessary forms are completed at Student Registration.
All documents containing the child's name must match the name on the birth certificate.

1. Two forms of current proof of residency (THE REGISTRATION PROCESS CANNOT BEGIN WITHOUT MEETING THIS REQUIREMENT)

- Current signed lease agreement OR Current mortgage statement or property tax receipt OR Statement of Legal Residence Form {Affidavit} (copies available at Student Registration Office) *this requires the owner/landlord's signature and notary

- PLUS one of the following:  Automobile registration with the same address OR Current gas, electricity, or water bill with the same address

2. Certified Birth Certificate showing the registering parent(s) name(s) OR court-ordered proof of custody/guardianship if you are not the birth parent. If you need further information about obtaining legal guardianship, please contact the Rockdale County Probate Court at (770) 278-7700.

3. Social Security Card (or waiver)

4. Form 3231 Georgia Certificate of Immunization

5. Form 3300 (Certificate of Ear, Eye, and Dental Examination)

6. Photo ID for parent

7. Certified copy of your child's transcript (grades 9 and higher) - Georgia Statute O.C.G.A. 20-2-670.

8. Certified copy of your child's discipline record (grades 6-12) - Georgia Statute O.C.G.A. 20-2-670. We will also need a copy of the withdrawal form.

Additional Information You May Need
 - If you child has a disability which requires special education, please bring a copy of your child's IEP.
 - If you are coming to Rockdale from another school system, please bring a copy of your child's records from the previous school. This would include a copy of the report card (Kindergarten -- 8th grade) or transcript (9th - 12th grades).
 - If you are transferring within the county, please bring a copy of the withdrawal form.

Change of Address During the School Year
All student address changes within RCPS must be validated at Student Registration. Please bring proof of your new residence to the Student Registration office.

Registering Your Child for the Early Learning Center
Entry Age for Public Kindergarten and First Grade
A child must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enter a public kindergarten. The child must be six years old on or before September 1 to enter first grade. School systems must verify age before enrollment. A child who was a legal resident of one or more states or countries for a period of two years immediately prior to moving to Georgia and who was legally enrolled in either a public kindergarten or first grade, or a private kindergarten or first grade accredited by a state or regional association, would be eligible to enroll in Georgia schools, provided that the kindergartner is 5 years old by December 31 or the first grader is 6 by December 31.

Students Returning From a Department of Juvenile Justice Placement
If a student has completed his or her sentence in a youth detention center and he or she is returning to the local education agency, the student must re-register at Student Registration. Pursuant to Georgia Department of Education Rule 160-4-8-.17, a case management consultation team (school and involved local law enforcement agency personnel) will schedule a meeting with you to determine the best placement for your child.
