Salem girls rebound from first loss

The Salem girls basketball team may have suffered its first loss during the Jarrett Cook Holiday Classic.

But the Lady Seminoles proved they could bounce back, and finished the tournament hosted by North Gwinnett High School with a 60-16 win over Grayson on Thursday.

It was the largest margin of victory for Salem since an 80-33 win over Monroe Area on Feb. 2, 2010.

Salem tallied 20 steals against Grayson, forcing it into 39 turnovers. Ayanna Mitchell had 27 points, nine rebounds and four steals int eh effort. Nikkira Brown addd 13 points and two steals for the Lady Seminoles.

Salem earned its way into the fifth-place gamea after beating Chapel Hill 50-34 on Wednesday..

Ayanna Mitchell scored 18 points, and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win during the Jarrett Cook Holiday Classic at North Gwinnett.

The win came a day after Salem suffered its first loss, falling 43-34 to Central Gwinnett. It was the first game of the tournament, putting the Lady Seminoles into the consolation bracket.

Ayanna Mitchell scored 13 point, grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists. It was the first time Salem gave up more than 40 points all season.

Salem (10-1) will play Grayson for fifth place Thursay at 9 a.m.
