The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for counties south of Interstate 20, including Rockdale and Newton counties, until 2 a.m.
A tornado warning was issued for Heard and Troup counties until 6:45 p.m.
Drivers heading west of Atlanta are urged to use caution.
