The Rockdale, Newton and Gwinnett Heath Departments will be offering voters in those counties an opportunity to not only place their ballot, but also better their health.
There will be immunization clinics set up at polling places during early voting as well as Election Day as part of a nationwide Vote and Vaccinate program.
"During elections, thousands are expected to vote at their local community polling places," Dr. Lloyd Hofer, Director for the Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale Health Departments said. "The Vote and Vaccinate Campaign is one more way we can reach our at-risk population and encourage them to get vaccinated."
Vaccines available through polling places include Tdap (Tetanus, Deptheria and Pertussis/Whooping Cough), which is available for persons 18-64 years of age, and Pneumococcal Vaccine, which is a one-time vaccine available for persons 65 years of age and older
"Providing voters and other community members with easy access to health information at polling places is an important way to better protect our citizens this season," Suleima Salgado, Public Information Officer for the Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale County Health Departments said. "Election time is a great opportunity for us to make contact with a large section of the community which we typically don't see at our health departments and educate them on available public health services."
Vaccinations are available at the Maxell Building located at 1400 Parker, Rd. Lobby C in Conyers from July 14-16 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and at the Newton County Admin Building located at 1113 Usher St in Covington on July 12-16 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Proof of voting is not required. Vaccines will be provided at these locations while supplies last.
These vaccinations are also available, free of charge through Health Department locations during early voting and Election Day at the Covington Health Center and Conyers Health Center.
