The 2012 Region 8-AAAA tournament begins this week, with a distinctly Rockdale flair.
In both the girls' and boys' brackets, Rockdale sits at No. 1 followed by Salem at No. 2.
The Salem Seminoles and Rockdale Bulldogs both earned byes in the tournament, meaning they will face the winner of the fourth and fifth seed matchup for a place in the state tournament.
The Rockdale girls' team earned the top seed in the south subregion thanks to a regular season ending win over Salem. The Lady Bulldogs will go on to face the winner of Clarke Central and Winder-Barrow at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs' boys' clinched the top seed, despite falling to Salem 75-60 on Tuesday.
C.J. Wilson led Rockdale (17-7, 7-1) with 18 points, four assists and three steals. David Jelks had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Charles Moore chipped in 13 points for the Bulldogs.
Salem ended the season with fours straight wins, and five in a row coming in region play. The Salem Seminoles last Region 8-AAAA loss was against Rockdale, 72-68.
The Rockdale boys will face the winner of Clarke Central and Winder-Barrow at 8:30 p.m. on Monday.
Salem will also play in Day 2 of the tournament, with the girls taking on the winner of Madison County and Apalachee on Tuesday and the boys meeting either Flowery Branch or Madison County on Monday.
