Just four games into the 2013 slate, the Rockdale football team has tied its win total from the last two seasons – combined.

Rockdale defeated Morrow 30-6 on the road Friday night, scoring its highest point total since putting up 41 in a win against Benneker in 2009.

The victory also marked the third straight year Rockdale (4-1) started off with a win in region play, and the second-straight season with a victory against the Mustangs.

Last season’s win over Morrow was a shutout for Rockdale, and there was almost another one Friday night. The Bulldogs’ defense dominated throughout, until a big play put Morrow deep in Bulldogs’ territory as the third quarter was winding down.

Leading 30-0 into the fourth quarter, a margin which gave Rockdale a running clock in the final 12 minutes, the Bulldogs stood tall on their own 1-yard line a run play up the middle, a pass and another run to the left side. However, a little under two minutes into the fourth quarter, Morrow got on the scoreboard for six.

The Bulldogs, who won their first three games before falling 34-0 to Langston Hughes Sept. 20, are off to their best start since 1999. The last Rockdale football team of the 20th century lost its second game of the season, before winning each of its following games until the second round of the playoffs.
