Rockdale County Public Schools was recently evaluated and received the highest marks on its compliance with special education regulation.

RCPS received 100 percent on all compliance indicators and a category called district's maintenance of effort status, according to information released from the Georgia Department of Education.

This is the second consecutive year RCPS has made 100 percent, a RCPS press release said.

Because of its performance, the district keeps its meets requirements status on Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, also known as IDEA.

"Our Learning Support Department works hard to not only meet the requirements of IDEA, but to exceed them," Superintendent Richard Autry said in the press release. "This is just one example of how this department helps to ensure that 100 percent of our students are given the opportunity to learn and thrive in their education."

The Department of Education is required to evaluate the performance of local districts in meeting requirements and purposes of IDEA.
