Rockdale celebrates seniors, eye first place
rock-volley-2

The Rockdale volleyball team celebrated the seniors that brought it an 8-AAAA region championship last season, and has it on the verge of another in 2011 on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs celebrated with recognition, flowers and a big win. In its final home game of the season, Rockdale defeated Salem 25-9, 25-12 in straight sets.

Leading the way was several of Rockdale’s seniors, including Libby Bradford and Tianna Brown. Brown has just recently returned from injury and has provided a steady source of kills at outside hitter for the Bulldogs.

“She’s been playing the last two or three weeks, and we’re glad to have her back,” Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing said. “She gives us a lift.”

Bradford also provided a lift by connecting on 10 aces in the first game as Rockdale set the tone early.

“It was great,” Sansing said. “Our seniors came out, and they were pumped up on senior night. They really set the tone early.”

Rockdale is 30-11 overall and 8-1 in Region 8-AAAA putting them in first place with one region matchup to go. The Bulldogs will play on Thursday at Clarke Central, which before Tuesday’s matchup against Habersham Central was one game behind Rockdale.
