Rockdale Medical Center Auxiliary Member Billy Boyd was honored as the hospital’s volunteer of the year award at the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Friday.

Boyd, an Auxiliary volunteer for more than three years and spends most of his time working in the Day Surgery Department, where he arrives at 5:30 a.m.

Rockdale Medical Center Vice President of Human Relations Marianne Freeman described him as someone who puts his whole heart in what he does. Along with golfing and his grandchildren, Boyd considers volunteering one of his three main passions. He is retired from ADT Security Systems, where he was an inventory manager, and has taught Sunday school at Conyers First United Methodist Church for 29 years.

RMC CEO Deborah Armstrong said the hospital’s 85 active volunteers work in 23 departments and areas, saving the hospital an average of $192,630 a year. But more importantly, volunteers help patients and families have a better experience during their visit to the hospital.
