Salem High School's Marine Corps JROTC students and several other groups in the county held ceremonies on Wednesday to honor the lives lost and bravery shown by first responders and to remember the attacks on September 11, 2011.

"We are having our 911 ceremony to honor those our country lost on that fateful day 12 years ago," said Gunny Sgt. Thurman Tatum II, the Marine Instructor for the MCJROTC at Salem High School.

At Peachtree Academy's campus off Salem Road, students held an assembly to mark the anniversary.

Rockdale Healthcare in Conyers held a commemorative ceremony and dedicated a flag to the Rockdale County Fire and Rescue division.
