Reading Bowl, Technology fair competition results

Around 700 students, parents, school staff and members of the public showed up for the 2010 Rockdale County Public Schools Technology Showcase on Jan. 30 at the Rockdale Career Academy. 

The day included the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, where student teams from each RCPS elementary school competed to answer questions about reading material, Media and Technology demonstrations from 18 schools on how to improve student achievement, and a Technology Fair. 

The results of the various competitions are as follows:

RCPS Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

Shoal Creek Elementary – 1st Place county. SCE competed at Regionals on Feb. 6 at Clayton State University, resulting in 330 points and winning each of their six rounds.

JH House Elementary – 2nd Place county. JHE competed at Regionals on Feb. 6 at Clayton State University, resulting in 340 points and winning five of their six rounds.

Lorraine Elementary – 3rd Place county

Technology Fair

o   Of the 63 projects submitted, nine will proceed to State competition, Saturday, Mar. 13 at Howard High School in Macon

o   The students participating at State Competition are: Claire Williams (Honey Creek, "Mission to Mars"), Ray Garner (Conyers Middle, "Star Wars"), Collin Hembree (Barksdale, "Barksdale Robotics Legends Group 1), Rushi Patel (Lorraine, "The Rolling Ball"), Erin Hardnett (Peek's Chapel, "Divisibility and Fractions"), Marcus Roberts (Rockdale Career Academy, "Two Dudes"), Ryan Nagle (Edwards Middle, "Skater"), Benjamin Cheban (Rockdale Career Academy, "Train Tracks"), Amanda Ogboi (Peek's Chapel, "Types of Rock")


Media Festival

o   Of the 62 projects submitted, 16 will proceed to State competition, Friday, Apr. 30 at the Clayton Professional Learning Center.
