Rockdale County Sheriff's Office deputies recently graduated from the Georgia Public Safety Center (GPSTC) basic law enforcement training academy: Deputy Sterling Bell, Deputy Stacy Armstead, Deputy Paul Oberholzter, and Deputy Darlene Duke graduated from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Athens.
During the graduation ceremony, Deputy Paul Oberholzter received the "Honor Graduate" award for being the top academic performer in the academy.
All four deputies successfully completed the basic mandate law enforcement program, which is designed to meet the state required basic training for law enforcement officers. The program takes 11 weeks to complete and consists of 408 hours of rigorous training that includes classroom-based lecture and sessions involving tactical training. As mandated by state law, all police officers in Georgia must complete this training in order to earn certification through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).

RCSO Deputy Thomas Green recently graduated from the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Law Enforcement Academy. Deputy Green, who has served as a Detention Deputy with the RCSO since November 5, 2012, successfully completed the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Law Enforcement Academy.
The Georgia Piedmont Technical College Law Enforcement Academy curriculum is designed to exceed the state required basic training for law enforcement officers. The academy takes 17 weeks to complete and consists of 744 P.O.S.T. training hours of rigorous training that includes classroom-based lecture and sessions involving tactical training. Graduates completing this program gain, in addition to their P.O.S.T. Basic Law Enforcement certification, 42 semester college credits towards an associate's degree in criminal justice. As mandated by state law, all police officers in Georgia must complete this training in order to earn certification through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).
During the graduation ceremony, Deputy Green received the "Academic Award" for being the top academic performer in the academy. As a result of his graduation, Deputy Green has been promoted to the rank of Certified Sheriff's Deputy I.
