Students found themselves with an unexpected early winter break last week as snow and ice forced schools to close for five days last week and school systems across the state are looking at what they can do to make up those days.
The Rockdale County Public School board will look at changing the school year calendar to use the Feb. 14-18 winter break as instructional days to make up for five snow days it was forced to take, in order to keep 180 instructional days. President's Day, on Feb. 21, would become a holiday.
The school board will vote on the issue at their combined work session and voting session at 7 p.m. tonight at 954 North Main Street. The work session is normally held on the second Thurdays and voting sessions on third Thursdays, but the two were combined this month due to the ice last week.
