If you've resolved to get healthy and exercise more this year, you'll want to walk, run, or sidle over to Rockdale Career Academy for their second annual Fast Forward 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 4.

"It's perfect timing," said RCA Assistant Principal Chad Walker. "Everybody's made those new year's resolutions." The race is a good goal for people who've started hitting the treadmill or pounding the pavement. He also pointed out the event was the only races in the area around this time of year. "We picked a time our runners can stay local and run."

Last year the race saw about 168 participants. "We'd love to see it grow," said Walker. Proceeds from the race go towards supporting RCA students and scholarships for RCA activities.

In addition to being a community event, the Fast Forward 5K is a great way for RCA students to put the skills they've been learning into practice.

"It's a really unified effort," said Walker. Public safety students help with traffic, health students take blood pressure before and after the events, and last year culinary arts students help prepare donated fruits to nourish walkers and runners. Graphic arts students were also involved in designing the race logo and flyer.

After Jan. 27, tickets are $20 each until race day. To register online, go to www.active.com. Registration on race day will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Pre-registered participants will also receive a long-sleeve T-shirt with a logo designed by RCA graphic arts students.
