Elections board members dismissed
Citing the Democratic member as "obstructionist" and the Republican member as "hardheaded," Rockdale County Superior Court Judge Sidney Nation dismissed both election board members after a four-hour hearing on Friday for failing to do their duty.

Rockdale school system makes AYP for 6th year in a row
Rockdale County Public Schools system made Adequate Yearly Progress, as determined under the No Child Left Behind Act, for the sixth year in a row. All schools in the system achieved AYP as well after summer retests and appeals were calculated.

Shooting outside daycare
Terrance Sherrod Roberson turned himself in to the Newton County Sheriff's Office shortly before 10 a.m. and was taken to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday after shooting his 10-year old step-daughter and estranged wife this morning outside of a Stockbridge daycare center, according to Sgt. Jodi Shupe, a spokesperson for the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office.

Salem High School vandalism
Students were reportedly greeted Monday morning at Salem High School with toilet paper in trees, vending machines damaged, administrative offices broken into, the inside of the building egged, and furniture removed in what was might have been a senior prank gone awry, according to parents of students.

Nesbitt arrested
According to a sheriff's office report, Commissioner Oz Nesbitt and his wife became embroiled in an arguement that resulted in Nesbitt punching the windshield of her car and his wife reportedly pulling off the windshield wipers of his car.

Burned man's family reported him as missing
Villa-Gomez's family reportedly called Auburn police to notify them that he was missing, but because he was an adult and missing less than 24 hours, the complaint was noted and a lookout was put on his vehicle, according to the Barrow County News. During that time, his vehicle was found burned in Rockdale County.

Ice storm/snowpocalypse of 2011
A wintry mix of several inches of snow and freezing rain could be headed towards Rockdale on Sunday. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch in effect for most of the state from Sunday evening through Monday evening.
