Heritage went 2-1 in the Walnut Grove Christmas Tournament last week, picking up its loss in its first game of the three-day tournament.
The Patriots fell to Grayson 58-37 Dec. 27, ending Heritage’s two-game win streak. However, the Patriots would make up for it over the next two games, starting with a win over George Walton Academy, 53-29 on Dec. 28.
Heritage finished up the tournament with a 52-39 victory over Jefferson Dec. 29, before traveling to Flowery Branch in a game which finished after press time Friday.
The Heritage girls’ team also came away from the Walnut Grove Christmas Tournament with a 2-1 record, after losing the opener.
The Lady Patriots fell to George Walton Academy 46-33 on Dec. 27, extending the Bulldogs win streak to four games.
Heritage then beat host Walnut Grove 59-38 on Dec. 28 after going up 25-13 at halftime. The Lady Patriots finished up the tournament with a 49-13 victory over Jefferson Dec. 29 after leading 12-5 in the first quarter, and pulling away in the fourth quarter, in which they outscored Jefferson 19-8.
The Rockdale boys’ basketball team snapped a two game win streak in the LaGrange Toyota Basketball Classic Tuesday. The game was close after the first quarter with Jonesboro leading 16-15, before the Cardinals pulled away with a 17-6 second quarter.
Darrius Mitchell led Rockdale with 19 points and LaRonta Parks added 18. Jonesboro was led by Patrick Petty’s 21 points and nine assists and Chukedubem Okeke with 17 points.
In LaGrange the Bulldogs defeated St. Francis 65-55 on Dec. 28 behind Mitchell’s 25 points.
Mitchell scored 16 points and Parks added 15 in Rockdale’s 51-45 win over Valley Dec. 29.
The Salem boys’ basketball team dropped its tune-up before Region 8-AAAAA play began Friday night.
The Salem Seminoles lost to Harrison 61-52 Wednesday as the Hoyas’ Andre Powell tallied 20 points and Devantre Young added 18.
