Our thoughts: Shop Locally

Conyers/Rockdale is fortunate to still have a chamber that operates the old fashion way, successfully.

The leadership, from the paid employees to its volunteers, is made up of compassionate people who not only are involved but are the very heart beat of our community.

This year the chamber is taking on a major undertaking, led by its chamber chair, Loraine Harrison, the chamber will introduce a major shop locally initative that will begin officially on May 2, with a major kickoff sponsored by both of our local Rotary Clubs.

We are proud to be a major sponsor of this initiative.

The initiative will officially be called Shop the Rock and will feature contests and special logos and a special web page, shoptherock.org, were you can go to gather information on sales and see reasons why you
should keep your money in Rockdale.

This project is being supported and sponsored by local media, the City Council, the Board of Commissioners, and the Economic Development council and major employers in Rockdale County.

If you will keep watch on these pages and our web site you will see updated news on this program as it progresses.

The chamber volunteer who chairs this project, Diane Adoma, is pushing her committee hard to bring attention to our local merchants.

Shopping locally is a two way street. In order for it to be successful, our local merchants need to cooperate with the chamber and local community supporters by offering local residents a reason for them to stop in their stores or to use their services.

We congratulate the chamber and its partners for this effort and we encourage you not to wait but to Shop the Rock now. A portion of every dollar you spend locally goes to help educate your children, provide you police protection and helps make our community a great place to work and play.
