Our thoughts: NAACP

Our local NAACP chapter held its 24th annual Freedom Fund Banquet on March 17 where they honored some outstanding community leaders.

The group honored Rockdale County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Samuel King with the Jean Williams award, Sen. Ronald Ramsey with a special community service award from the Citizens Progressive Club and Lewis Belcher was honored with the NAACP award for his service to the group and to the community.

The president of the NAACP, Willie Gibson, was awarded with a special leadership award.

Each one of these awards was well deserved. We owe a lot in our county to these honorees. They along with the members of the NAACP have stood shoulder to shoulder with other nonprofit groups in our community to insure that Rockdale County is a great place to live.
