Local job seekers will have a chance to interview with some of the area's largest manufacturers at a job fair from 8 a.m. to noon today at DeKalb Technical College's Covington campus, 8100 Bobby Williams Parkway.

Area industries SKC, Solo Cup in Conyers, Clairon Metals and Old Castle Glass will all be attending as well as staffing agencies Resource Manufacturing, which represents General Mills, Apollo Staffing and Atlantic CDL, a truck driving school. The job fair will be staged by the Georgia Department of Labor and the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce.

Bring resumes and dress appropriately. Call (770) 784-2455.

Human resource managers from the companies will be at the fair to screen applicants, said Shannon Davis, director of business retention and expansion for the chamber.

"We asked (area industries) if there was a need (for qualified workers) and there was a resounding ‘yes'," Davis said, adding that companies in Newton, Rockdale and Walton are all seeking to hire workers. "Our partners at the department of labor have graciously allowed us to pull in some industries that have a real need right now."

Davis said she didn't know what positions would be available nor the number of workers that could be hired.

The event will also include workshops on topics including "Dressing for Success", "How to become Work Ready Certified" and "How to have a Successful Job Search."

"We surveyed approximately two dozen industries before deciding to co-sponsor this career expo and we asked ‘what are some "gaps" you're seeing in job applicants?' These workshops address a few of these gaps," Davis said. "We are excited about the possibilities for employees and job seekers."
