The 60-mile ride through Newton, Jasper, Morgan and Walton counties will begin at 10 a.m. at the utility's office at 14750 Brown Bridge Road in Covington.
"Everybody deals with the disease in some form or another, whether it's someone close to you or someone you know," said Wayne Kitchens, an event organizer. "And we can't cure cancer ourselves, but at least we can pay someone else to do it."
Riders will pass through Monticello, Shady Dale and Madison. The ride will end at Conyers Riding Association clubhouse facility near Rutledge. Lunch served by Jim ‘N Nick's Bar-B-Q will be available for purchase at the clubhouse.
"We really appreciate the help so many people have given," Kitchens said. "A lot of local businesses were very generous and donated a lot of stuff... Door prizes are our biggest draw. Without door prizes, the event wouldn't be nearly as big as it is. People like to take something home with them."
Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the day of the event. The fees are $25 per rider and $10 per passenger. Each registered participant will receive a raffle ticket and a commemorative T-shirt featuring Willy Wirehand, the Snapping Shoals mascot. Raffle prizes include a leather vest and duffle bag, food coupons from restaurants like Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q and Chili's, hand tools and golf course green fees.
