Meet the Backpack Brigade
Lew-e-entertaining--inform

Over 100 children from pre-school up to fifth grade assembled at Conyers First UMC for a new back-to-school event.

The children were given a bag tag and a bevy of school supplies to commemorate the event which featured encouragement from Dr. John Beyers and the entire congregation for a safe and successful school year.

Assistant Children's Minister René Jackson hopes the tags "serve as a daily reminder that Jesus is with them. "
Jackson learned of a similar event at St. Pius from her stepmother, and added her personal stamp with the bag tag.
"Children love to collect things," Jackson said.

She envisions a different colored bag tag each year and is thankful to Elf Engraving for providing them. Estimating that half the children were non-members, Jackson is most heartened by the outreach potential.

The day was off to a high energy start after a performance by Lew-E the clown during the Sunday School hour. Captivating the kids with his tricks, Lew-E also shared God was his BFF who he could turn to for strength at school or anytime.
