Mary K. McCloskey, 89, of Conyers, born October 10, 1921 went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2011. Mary was a native of Czechoslovakia. Her family moved to the United States when she was nine years old and settled in Pittsburgh, PA. She married in 1941 to Edward Benjamin McCloskey. They had four children, Barry McCloskey, Candice McCloskey, David McCloskey, and Patti Wilson; seven grandchildren, Jennifer McCloskey, Vicki McCloskey, Deirdre Whelan, Travis Landers, Rachel Landers, Kathleen Campbell, and Benjamin McCloskey; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Whelan and Kaitlyn Whelan. Mary was married to a military officer who traveled the world and lived in many places including Paris, France before settling in Stone Mountain, GA in 1965. She was widowed at the age of 50. Soon after, she became a founding member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Mary was very active in the church; she was on the Altar and Homebound Committees, taught Sunday School, Parish Cook, a member of the choir, and volunteered weekly at St. Vincent de Paul Society. In addition, she was church secretary at Our Lady of Lourdes in Atlanta. Mary loved to bowl, play golf, host parties, and cook for friends and families. She is survived by her children; grandchildren, and their spouses; great-grandchildren; sister, Irene; brother, Eddy; nieces and nephews. Mary was in good health for most of her 90 years. Family will receive friends at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Conyers, on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by the funeral mass with Father John Kieran and Monsignor Frank Guista officiating at 11 a.m. with reception to follow. A private family graveside burial service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to rest with her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent in Mary's name to St. Vincent de Paul Society. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.
