A North Carolina man was killed early this morning when he was ejected from his car on Ga. Highway 212 in Newton County.

Ray Whaley, 46, of Clemons, N.C., was driving his 2008 Honda Civic west on 212 just east of Butler Bridge Road around 2:54 a.m. when he apparently lost control in a curve, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The car traveled off the south side, rotated clockwise and struck a utility pole on the driver's side. Whaley, according to Georgia State Patrol officials, was ejected from the car, which split in half on impact.

Whaley was the manager at Don Tellos, a Tex-Mex restaurant in Conyers, and co-owner of the former Pizza Plus on Ga. Highway 81.
