Mahaffey Ride honors fallen hero
IMG 5278

The Brian Mahaffey Memorial Ride rolled out Saturday in honor the local deputy who was killed in the line of duty in May 2010.

The line-up began at the Rockdale County's Sheriff's Office and ended at Los Charros on Hwy 20 at Honey Creek Road. Dozens of motorcycles, cars and trucks participated in the free event, which was also a celebration of what would have been Mahaffey's 31st birthday. The father of two was killed while attempting to serve a warrant on May 8, 2010, one day after he turned 28.

"My brother gave his life doing what he loved: protecting this community," said Chris Mahaffey, Brian's brother. "The comfort that only Christ can bring, has been what has gotten us through these past 3 years, but the outpouring of love and support from this community has been such an encouragement."

Representatives from the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S) were also on hand and accepting donations. For more information about C.O.P.S, visit www.NationalCOPS.org.
