Rockdale County's Lorraine Elementary School took first place in last weekend's regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl.

Six regional bowls were held throughout the state Feb. 1. LES competed in the metro regional and beat out runner-up Morris Brandon Elementary, a school in the Atlanta Public School district.

The two elementary schools will compete in the Division I bowl Feb. 22 at Lovinggood Middle School in Powder Springs. Besides the metro region, Division I includes the north and west regions. Elementary, middle, and high school students participate in the bowl.

Davis Middle placed third among the middle schools in last weekend's regional match. But only first and second place winners advance on to divisional.

If the Lorraine Lions win the divisional, the team will compete in the state bowl March 8 at the University of Georgia.
