Lighting the way

Bright minds: Dr. Samuel King, Rockdale County Schools superintendent; Kent Owens, senior vice president, marketing, Acuity Brands Lighting; Ms. Hill, first grade teacher; and Blake Craft, principal of Shoal Creek Elementary School.

Acuity Brands Lighting Inc. recently presented a special plaque to the first grade students and faculty at Shoal Creek Elementary School in Conyers during the dedication of a renovated classroom, recognizing the school for its energy-efficient lighting and commitment to the environment. Acuity Brands Lighting donated Lithonia Lighting's new Class Pack lighting system to Shoal Creek to provide well-designed lighting to compliment various teaching formats. The efficiency and savings from switching to the Class Pack has the same impact on the environment as planting eight trees, according to a statement.

"We thank Acuity Brands Lighting for partnering with Shoal Creek Elementary School this year," said King. "Our new lighting in the renovated classroom is for the betterment of the education for our students, "Our strategic plan calls for community engagement and business partnerships and this is a prime example of partnerships in action."
