Letter: Buying loyalty

Dear Editor: It is unmistakable to any informed Patriot that the once mighty USA is on the downslide to oblivion. Some may be surprised and take issue with that declaration, not realizing that those who appreciate the freedoms offered by this once proud Republic are now in the minority and helplessly watching as history repeats itself. We are now victims of an oppressive government, just as we began, whose leaders are obsessed with greed for power and control defined as "an acquisitive desire beyond reason," ignoring their oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the principles set forth in our Constitution. And, mainstream media have all but abandoned the unfettered freedom and implied obligation in the First Amendment to keep the people truthfully informed.

In support of that opinion, I vividly recall a declaration in 2008 by then presidential candidate Obama, "In five days, we are going to fundamentally transform the United States of America." No member of the media asked the question: "Transform to what?" To fundamentally transform means to change from the foundation or roots. How does that square with his oath when sworn into office, to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic? This brings to mind the adage that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. Again, no serious attempt was made by media to point out the contradiction.

During another campaign speech he said, "We are going to create an army mightier than the military," and again, no questions from media. After the fact, we now know what he meant - an army of dependents bought with funds from the U.S. Treasury. One example: It is estimated by one observer that free Obama phones equated to 20 million votes in the voting booth. It should be clear to any informed person that if Obamacare is left to stand, the added loyalty it buys in the voting booth will be overwhelming.

History tells us that the average age of the world's great nations is 200 years. We are now 225. All fell for the same reason. Voters are prone to vote for the candidate promising the most benefits. Today, it is reported that we borrow 42 cents of every dollar government spends. Common sense says our leaders are not so stupid they don't understand the weight of indebtedness, which is now some $17 trillion, and Obama wants more. All the great nations fell because of debt, and ended in a dictatorship. Could that be the goal of this Administration? He does seem to have the support of most all Democrats in Congress. All but five Senators voted to give the U.N. authority to regulate/restrict Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms.
