Salem High School baseball is coming off a less than stellar season and has now lost its head coach, Chad Kitchens.
Kitchens announced his resignation, as he has accepted a teaching/coaching job at Monroe Area High School.
"It's closer to my house, it's like 10 minutes from my house and Salem was a good bit farther," Kitchens said.
Kitchens lives in Social Circle, which is much closer to his new job than his previous one at Salem. Salem went 10-16 last year including a 5-11 record in the region.
"We had some individuals that did okay last year. We did the best we could in the situation we had," Kitchens said.
Monroe went just 7-18 this past season, including its 5-11 record in the region. Although it doesn't count or hold much weight, Monroe was able to defeat Salem in a scrimmage before their respective seasons started.
"I've got to rebuild this program here," Kitchens said. "It's going to be a long-term rebuilding project. We're trying to play summer ball. They haven't played summer ball in a long time so we changed that. I think that's going to help."
"Every team I ever coached my goal was for them to develop the attitude that they're going to do their best every pitch, whether it be practice, a game or whatever. If you do that you're going to succeed."
