Cancer affects every segment of society, but every year the Rockdale community comes together to fight back in a fundraising campaign.

This year, the Rockdale Relay for Life kicks off its 2011 campaign on Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Drive.

"The Kick-Off event allows the community to support the fight against cancer and help society improve the quality of life of those in the Rockdale community," said organizer Mike Kessler.
The Relay itself, which will be held overnight from April 29 to 30 at the Georgia International Horse Park, raises money for research and treatment in the fight against cancer. Walkers and supporters find sponsors to enter the relay and often enter as a team.

The Relay for Life kickoff is open to the public.
