William Owens, a well-known composer in the band world, flew in from Texas and spent the day at Davis Middle School working with seventh and eighth grade students on a piece he composed in honor of Laura and Karl Anshutz, a DMS eighth grader and Heritage High School senior killed in a single car wreck in 2010. The piece, titled “Joys Everlasting,” was presented for the first time in concert at Davis Middle School on Oct. 20. Students from HHS who were classmates with Laura Anshutz at Davis joined the band for the performance.
