First of all, I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to be a part of history here in this county with the debut issue of the next best thing in print media since online blogging, The Rockdale News.
This week's i n a u g u r a l publication is a two-fold introductory process with you having the chance to read indepth articles of real local news stories from our talented staff, while I personally will get the opportunity to learn more about the athletic pulse of this vibrant community.
Since we're in the early stages of our relationship, allow me to introduce myself and tell you a few tidbits about me as a person, writer and most importantly - a fan. Although I'm new to working the county, I'm no stranger to covering sports on a national and local level, especially within the Atlanta metro area.
I am a seasoned reporter with an unyielding passion for sports. Like so many other residents,I'm a transplant citizen who first came to Atlanta for a visit several years back, but has since then moved and now call Georgia home.
Being from New York, I proudly wave the flag of my former hometown teams, from the three-time Super Bowl champion
Giants to the orange and blue paraphernalia of the Mets.
This passion is often a sparkplug for debate, but like any die hard fan, I've welcomed all challenges with open arms and a pocket full of ammunition to fuel the flames of competitive sports banter.
Since I wasn't born here, nor do I personally know anyone from this area, I have no allegiance or ties to any particular school, players or coaches.
Everything I know about Heritage, Salem and Rockdale County High is from word of mouth or through Internet reports.
However, I can tell you that I've heard nothing but positive things about each team and I am anxiously looking forward to covering your games.
As time passes by, you'll soon see that I'm opinionated, but fair. I can be silly, but serious when the situation calls for a stern voice. I'm also a fan of the game and good-natured competition, even if my favorite team isn't in the mix.
So here's to you Rockdale County. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes, offices and computer screens with open
arms. I hope this is the first of many memorable conversations not only as sports fans, but as friends.
After all, this is history in the making and we're writing our own chapter one issue at a time.
