The generosity and giving spirit of the Rockdale-Conyers community means there is an abundance of events to give back to the community, especially during the holiday months. Here are just a few places where you can give donations or volunteer to help local families in need.


Ongoing - Meals on Wheels - This program provides hot, nutritious meals for home-bound senior citizens. The Rockdale County Senior Services center is in need of volunteer drivers to take the meals out to seniors. Time requirement is about an hour a week. Ongoing - Clothing donation - Springfield Baptist Church is collecting gently used professional and casual clothing for its prison ministry. Donations can be dropped off at 1873 Iris Drive, Conyers.

November - "30,000 in 30 Days", Crosspoint Christian Church and Young Americans Christian School are teaming up to collect "30,000 in 30 Days" of canned foods and non-perishables, such as diapers, formula, toilet paper and more, by the end of November to donate to Rockdale Emergency Relief. Nov. 28 - Macedonia Baptist Church Thanksgiving Dinner Celebration, 10 a.m. - noon, 1052 Barton Street; serving homeless families and those without a place to go for Thanksgiving; to confirm your attendance, call 770-922-2611 by Nov. 27, 5 p.m., with last name, number of people attending in your family, any food allergies, and pickup address if transportation is needed; transportation begins at 9:30 a.m.

Dec. 8 - Empty Stocking Fund, 8:30 a.m. The Rockdale and Conyers Rotary Clubs come together to help children in need have a happier Christmas by taking them shopping at the Conyers Target with funds donated from the community.

Dec. 14 - Shop with a Cop, 8 a.m., at Conyers Walmart; at risk youth are taken on a gift shopping trip with Conyers Police, Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol and other law enforcement officers with funds donated from individuals and local businesses.
