An armed robbery suspect who hit a BP gas station in Rockdale and who may be connected to 11 other gas station robberies in the metro-Atlanta area is now in Rockdale County Jail after being arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force Wednesday afternoon.

Lewis Bernard Flagg, 33 of Decatur, is currently in the Rockdale County Jail facing charges of Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

On Sunday, June 16, at approximately 10:25 p.m., a short and slender black male suspect entered the BP gas station located at 2992 Highway 155 in south Rockdale County. The suspect approached the store on foot, robbed the store at gunpoint and then left the area on foot. Since that robbery, the same suspect has been linked to at least 11 other gas station robberies throughout metro Atlanta, even as recently as July 7, 2013.

Following several leads and working with the other metro Atlanta agencies affected by the rash of robberies, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office investigator assigned to the case was able to take warrants on Lewis Bernard Flagg on July 2, for Armed Robbery. On Wednesday, July 10, Flagg was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force at a residence in Decatur.

"This was a great effort by local law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service to identify and apprehend this dangerous robbery suspect," said Sheriff Eric Levett. "This apprehension goes to show that having a RCSO deputy assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service gives us the needed resources to track down criminals that think that they can come to Rockdale County to commit crimes and then flee."
