State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 Student Advisory Council.

The members of the Student Advisory Council meet three times during the school year with the State School Superintendent to discuss how decisions made at the state level affect students throughout Georgia.

Members are advisors and act as liaisons between the Department of Education (GaDOE) and the students of Georgia. Superintendent Barge will conduct the meetings, which will also feature various GaDOE personnel providing further information.

"I am excited about to getting to know a new group of student advisors and discuss how our policies impact them on a daily basis," said Superintendent Barge. "We want to make education work for all Georgia’s students, and hearing directly from them is the best way to ensure that happens.”

All students in grades 9-12 are eligible to apply.
Meeting dates are: Sept. 27, 2013, Feb. 14, 2014 and May 2, 2014. These dates are subject to change. Applications must be received by Sept. 13, 2013. Students interested in applying for the Council should contact Ron Culver at rculver@doe.k12.ga.us.
