Both Salem and Rockdale will represent the county this weekend in the inaugural Jeff Blount Memorial Tournament. Salem plays Loganville tonight at 7:30 p.m. at home while the Bulldogs take on South Gwinnett at the same time on their home field as well.
Salem plays twice on Saturday, taking on South Gwinnett at 4:30 p.m. then Berkley at 7 p.m. Both games will be at Salem. Across town, the Bulldogs play Loganville at 7 p.m.
Rockdale is the lone team in action Sunday as the Bulldogs face St. Pius at 6 p.m.
This weekend's round-robin tournament has special meaning for both teams. While more than 40 teams are participating, Salem and Rockdale will be playing for a former coach and friend as the tournament is in honor of beloved Rockdale High School alumnus and teacher and Salem High School teacher and coach Jeff Blount who lost his battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in September 2008 at the age of 41. Blount had been a fixture in Rockdale County his entire life, having graduated from Rockdale in 1985. He had taught at Salem since 1992.
The cost per day for admission to the games is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Admission is free for senior citizens
